Decentralized Web and ICANN: Navigating Uncharted Waters towards a Compatible Future

For instance, ICANN’s vast experience in internet governance could be instrumental in shaping the decentralized web’s early stages, ensuring it matures in a manner that’s beneficial for all users.
Furthermore, a hybrid model could emerge. This model might involve the decentralized web for certain applications, especially where user privacy and data security are paramount, while the traditional, centralized web might still be preferred for other use cases. In such a scenario, ICANN’s role might evolve but remain indispensable.
The prospects of the decentralized web are undoubtedly exciting, promising a more democratic and user-centric digital landscape. However, the journey to its full realization is intricate, requiring the navigation of myriad technical, political, and sociological challenges.
