RDNH Case D2017-1182

In the WIPO domain name dispute case D2017-1182, J.D.M. Software B.V. of the Netherlands filed a complaint against Robert Mauro, WDINCO from the USA, over the domain name jdm.com. J.D.M. Software claimed rights to the “JDM” trademark, asserting that the domain name was identical to their trademark and alleging that Mauro had no rights or legitimate interests in it. They argued that the domain name’s registration and use were in bad faith. However, the WIPO panel found that Mauro had rights or legitimate interests in the domain name as it was a three-letter acronym with various meanings and used in connection with Japanese Domestic Market cars and parts. The complaint was denied, and the case was determined as an instance of reverse domain name hijacking by J.D.M. Software B.V.​​.
