Foundation and Growth of Magic Solutions International, Inc.

Lichtman’s most notable achievement was founding Magic Solutions International, Inc., in 1988. This company, specializing in help desk and asset management software, emerged from a computer systems integrator and quickly became one of the most successful independent software vendors on the U.S. East Coast during the 1990s. Magic Solutions started with just one programmer servicing a single customer and, at its peak, boasted 300 employees, 6,000 customers, and annual sales exceeding $50 million. The company was recognized in the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing companies in 1996 and 1997 and was eventually acquired by Network Associates Inc. (later known as McAfee) for $110 million in 1998​
Seed Investment in Quigo and Technological Ventures

Apart from his success with Magic Solutions, Lichtman was also a seed investor in Quigo, a targeted advertising network sold to America Online in 2007 for $340 million. After selling Magic Solutions, he invested in and built several high-technology startups, including iBoogie.com, TrafficMedia, and Domainspa.com, which was built on an early “pay per click” internet advertising business model. Lichtman was also involved in virtual reality, producing Jerusalem.com, an innovative website offering virtual tours of Jerusalem​

Education and Early Career

Lichtman’s career was grounded in a solid educational background, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Technion, the Israeli Institute of Technology. His early career included various roles as an engineer, programmer, and an officer in the Israeli Air Force. He was also a co-founder of a prosperous computer/local area network value-added reseller business that ranked in the top 100 LAN VARs in the U.S. between 1986 and 1988​


Recognition and Philanthropy

In 1996, Lichtman was awarded the Ernst & Young New Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the “Software” category. His philanthropic work included serving on the board of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces and endowing a wing to the Israel National Museum of Science, Technology, and Space (MadaTech)​

Igal Lichtman passed away on February 18, 2013, after a battle with cancer.
